All sorts of metal have a real problem when they are dealing with the elements of water day in and day out. One of the best things about utilizing metal is the fact that it is malleable and we can use them for things such as pipes, in bridges and in buildings, and in all sorts of other things, which has been one of the grass roots of just about every piece of technology that we have in the World today. However, one of the biggest problems with metal is that it corrodes a lot of the time when it is dealing with water. We use metal piping systems, and based on the fact that they are used to shuttle water, they are going to corrode, causing a lot of problems in the long run through deterioration, which is why we use cathodic protection with Siemens water technology. If you don’t know what cathodic protection is, it is essentially a technique that is utilized, which prevents the break down and corrosion of metal as a result of its interaction with water and other elements.

iccp-img1.1 This type of protection is used in all sorts of things. In our major pipelines all over the world we use these systems, as well as in the bulk of metal in buildings and in bridges. Our offshore oil wells that are located all over the globe have a lower level of corrosion due to the protection that they have implemented on their structures. If it were not for the CAPAC system that so many industries use, there would be a lot of problems with degrading and corroding elements of their machinery, which would in turn cost a lot of money to fix. Boats also use protection and have outfitted the majority of hulls these types of systems.

 

Water Heaters and Water Supplies

corrosion1 While it is apparent that various types of metal are corroding on the outside, which can easily be seen with the eye by simply looking at something. For instance, if you have a bridge, or a boat that does not have a protection system against corrosion, it is going to be blatantly obvious. However, when you are dealing with something such as a hot water heater, or a piping system, the water that is touching the metal is going to be internal. This means that you are not going to be able to tell if the metal is corroding or not. In the past, this type of thing has become a real problem, as metal can start to corrode and enter the water that is going through our pipes. Many people drink straight from their home faucets, so if there is metal coming straight off the pipes as a direct result of corrosion, and then people are drinking that very same water that is coming out, they may be ingesting a large amount of harmful metal elements, which is why it has been so important that these types of CAPAC systems have been created.
